The Ideas of Art

Abstract

The aim of this work is to recognize the specificity of artistic activity, its concerns, its problems, and solutions. It is introduced here the concept of “artistic idea” in order to designate the resolution of an aesthetic problem, a sensible idea, which is posed by the material support itself (painting, notes, marble) and which cannot, instead of intellectual ideas (philosophical, sociological, etc. .), be translated into words or formulated in another way. The ideas of art are the true meaning of the works, which are not translations or expressions of other non-artistic ideas, as some hermeneutic critics maintain. These ideas are the ones that cause a special emotion, specifically aesthetic, and that the aesthetic judgment tries to evaluate.
