Pink and blue About the colors for men and women

Abstract

The colors has always been reason for attention by different researchers, specialists and disciplines, and it is interpreted from different times, contexts and cultures. However, nowadays certain colors are linked to gender in a generalized way. For example, if a girl or a boy borned, it would activate the blue or pink logic, respectively, in order o acquire or deliver every type of children’s product in this kind of tones. This generates what Michel Foucault calls body’s discipline, in this case through colors. This paper aims a brief review of some conceptions and researches about the color. Then, it looks for the relationships between chromaticism and the representations of the sex and gender identities. It starts with the posters used by the collective “No te metas con mis hijos” (in english: Don’t mess with my children). Next, it develops visual analysis from cultural local devices, in different times. The above, with the purpose of problematize the link between the colors and the affirmation or representation of certain identities.
