Editorial Ethics
Designio. Research in Graphic Design and Image Studies is a scholarly publication that promotes the production, dissemination, and discussion of knowledge in the fields of design, art, and image studies, from an interdisciplinary, critical, and engaged perspective.
The journal embraces editorial ethics as a cross-cutting principle that guides not only scholarly communication but also the responsibility in the creation, interpretation, and dissemination of images, visual discourses, and cultural practices. In this sense, Designio fosters an academic culture based on integrity, transparency, respect for authorship, and rigor in research.
Editorial Commitment
The journal is committed to:
- Guaranteeing transparent, rigorous, and impartial editorial processes.
- Promoting open access to knowledge under a model with no fees for authors or readers.
- Ensuring the scientific and editorial quality of published content.
- Respecting the diversity of approaches, methodologies, and disciplinary perspectives.
- Preventing and addressing academic and editorial misconduct.
Authors' Responsibilities
Authors submitting work to Designio must:
- Submit original, unpublished contributions not simultaneously submitted to other publications.
- Properly acknowledge all sources used, both textual and visual.
- Guarantee that they possess the rights to use and reproduce images, graphics, photographs, or other visual elements included in their work.
- Declare any conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretations of the study
- Ensure the accuracy of the data and the methodological coherence of the research.
- Actively participate in the review and correction processes when required.
Reviewers' Responsibilities
Reviewers play a fundamental role in ensuring academic quality. In this regard, they commit to:
- Conducting objective, critical, and constructive evaluations.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscripts they review.
- Refraining from reviewing work in which a conflict of interest exists.
- Report any irregularities, such as plagiarism or misuse of sources, to the editorial team.
- Adhere to the established deadlines for the evaluation process.
Responsibilities of the Editorial Committee
The Designio editorial team is responsible for:
- Making editorial decisions based exclusively on academic and scientific criteria.
- Ensuring the confidentiality of the double-blind peer review process.
- Ensuring compliance with the journal's ethical policies.
- Acting diligently in response to reports or suspicions of misconduct.
- Promoting the continuous improvement of editorial processes.
Ethical Use of Images and Visual Content
Given the journal's focus, the ethical treatment of images is a central aspect. Therefore:
- Authors must ensure that the images used respect copyright, licenses, and reproduction permissions.
- Deceptive manipulation of images that alters their meaning or interpretation must be avoided.
- In the event of intervention or editing of visual material, this must be explicitly indicated.
- The responsible use of images in culturally sensitive contexts is encouraged, avoiding practices that may be offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate.
Conflict of Interest
All participants in the editorial process (authors, reviewers, and editors) must declare any personal, academic, or financial relationship that could influence the development or evaluation of manuscripts.
If a conflict of interest is identified, the editorial team will take the necessary measures to guarantee the transparency and impartiality of the process.
Originality
Designio uses similarity detection tools (such as anti-plagiarism software) to verify the originality of manuscripts.
The following are considered unacceptable:
- Total or partial plagiarism.
- Redundant self-publication without justification.
- Manipulation of citations or references.
Manuscripts that engage in these practices will be rejected, and, if necessary, the relevant institutions will be notified.

Retractions, Corrections, and Controversies
The journal may issue:
- Corrections, when errors are identified that do not invalidate the article's results.
- Retractions, when there is evidence of misconduct or serious errors that compromise the validity of the work.
- Decisions will be made by the editorial team, guaranteeing due process and the authors' right to reply.
Handling Misconduct
In cases of suspected misconduct (plagiarism, data falsification, undisclosed conflicts of interest, among others), the journal will follow a process that includes:
- Preliminary review by the editorial team.
- Request for clarification from the authors.
- Evaluation of the case according to international guidelines.
- Decision-making (rejection, retraction, or other measures).
The journal reserves the right to inform the institutions involved when appropriate.
Purpose. Research in graphic design and image studies adopts principles of editorial ethics in accordance with international standards, particularly those defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics, integrating them contextually within the fields of design, art, and image studies.[1]
