Abstract

This article is part of a doctoral dissertation in design and creation that examines the graphic and typographic memory of reading and writing primers in Colombia, with a particular focus on the Londoño Jaramillo School. The research analyzes how typographic practices influence education and cultural identity, highlighting the role of typography in graphic memory beyond its traditional pedagogical and political dimensions. Drawing on an interdisciplinary approach that integrates design, typography, education, and graphic memory, the study employs a Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology. This combines documentary analysis, experimentation, and assessment in educationalcontexts. Accordingly, the project uses techniques such as observation, comparative typographic analysis, and semi-structured interviews with teachers and designers. The theoretical framework includes studies on typography, educational design, and graphic memory, enabling a critical perspective on the typographic production of didactic materials and its impact on Colombian education. The findings underscore the importance of typographic design in education, its influence on cultural identity, and the need for its inclusion in public policy, offering both a diagnostic perspective and recommendations for the advancement of typographic design in Colombia.
