Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the job competencies required by the business sector for graduates in Marketing and Advertising in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico.
A quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive approach was used through a census applied to all companies located in the state’s Industrial Corridors I and II that had an officially established marketing department or office, 37 companies. The findings reveal that the most valued technical competencies among employers are market research (29 %), digital marketing (17,6 %), and public relations (18,2 %). Likewise, soft skills are highly valued, particularly effective communication (21,6 %), leadership (30,4 %), and teamwork (19,6 %). It is also noteworthy that many companies require professionals to perform tasks that fall outside their formal marketing profile. Graduates in this field face several challenges, including limited adaptability to workplace environments, lack of professional experience, and unrealistic salary expectations for the region. It is concluded that Tlaxcala’s business sector demands versatile professionals with a strong capacity for adaptation, highlighting the need to update educational programs to prepare graduates capable of meeting the challenges of the regional environment.
